授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
Content The primary aim of this course is to enhance students' linguistic proficiency and cultural awareness, fostering competence in cross-cultural communication. Through engaging with various texts, students will develop essential skills for reading critically and thinking analytically. Active class discussions will further encourage a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives, helping students build the tools necessary for effective communication across cultures. This course is designed to strengthen reading comprehension and oral communication skills through the detailed analysis of critical societal issues. By engaging in this comparative study, students will sharpen their critical thinking abilities, deepen their understanding of global complexities, and enhance their proficiency in the English language. Reading & Discussion ?read and evaluate texts in social sciences and humanities ?express one’s opinions about the course topic in a discussion constructively Writing & Presentations ?write a research paper on the course topic with appropriate citation (700-1,000 words + bibliography) ?make a visually aided presentation of the paper Class is taught and participated in English. |

Students will explore nine carefully selected case studies that examine dilemmas within an American context, contrasting them with contemporary challenges in modern Japan. A combination of an interactive lecture and active learning including group work, group discussions, and oral presentations. |

事前?事後学修の内容 /Before After Study |
Students are expected to have read each assigned case study and/or related handouts before coming to class so the content can be covered in a timely manner. Read textbook units or other assigned readings and complete all assignments before the following class. Students are also expected to work on the research paper throughout the term. |
