授業の目的?内容 /Course Objectives |
The goal of the course is to increase the students’ competence and confidence in listening, speaking, and study skills in academic contexts. Each week, students will be introduced to an interesting topic that will form the basis of in-class activities, such as the development of specific listening skills (e.g., listening for gist, listening for specific information, note-taking), speaking activities (e.g., pair work and group activities to develop accuracy and fluency), academic vocabulary, and presentation skills (individual and group). | ||||||||||

授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 /Teaching method and Attention the course |
Each unit of the textbook will be divided into two weekly modules. The first module will cover Listening Skills and Vocabulary Development or Research Skills. The second module will cover Speaking Skills and will also include a Unit Quiz and Presentation Instruction. Students will also give a three-minute mid-term individual presentation in Week 6 and a six- to eight-minute final group presentation in Week 13. A final written examination will be conducted in Week 14. Students will receive direct feedback from the instructor on in-class assignments, quizzes, and presentations. | ||||||||||

Students will be expected to review the various listening, speaking, and study skills presented in each lesson. (30 minutes) Students will also study the vocabulary words and strategies presented in each lesson and read all course-related handouts from the instructor. (30 minutes) Students will also prepare their own individual presentations and participate in preparing one final group presentation with other students. (4 to 6 hours per term) | ||||||||||
