授業の目的?内容 ／Course Objectives	本授業では、19世紀後半から20世紀前半にかけて書かれた英国と米国のサスペンスや奇妙な小説を講読しながら、テキストを通して見えてくる当時の日常生活や英語圏社会の様相について、さまざまな視点から考察していく。その際、ストーリーや描写に登場する事がらについての補足的なリサーチを行いながら、一般教養を高めることも目的とする。また、テキストを深く味わうと同時に、テキストの中のシンボルを読み解きながら、英語圏に共有されている宗教観やモラルについても検討していく。 教材：コナン?ドイル、O. ヘンリーなどの短編小説
授業の形式?方法と履修上の注意 ／Teaching method and Attention the course	アクティブ?ラーニングの手法を用いますので、活発な授業参加が必須です。リーディング、ライティング、ディスカッション、プレゼンテーションなど、こなさなければならない課題は多いですが、（世界で通用する）高度な学力?英語力を身に着けるための「通過点」として本講義をご利用いただければ幸いです。毎週約４時間の事前?事後学修が必要です。受講生が提出する全ての課題において、受講生間のピア?アセスメントまたは教員によるフィードバックが行われます。
